In 2021, Anna Kadari Chari founded Kavalian Limited, a cleantech company with a clear mission: to transform Kenya’s growing plastic waste problem into opportunity. With a background in environmental management and a strong commitment to sustainability, Anna identified innovation where others saw only waste.
Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future
Kavalian Limited converts discarded plastics into durable, eco-friendly building materials, including ceiling boards, wall panels, and furniture components. By doing so, the company reduces environmental pollution while supporting the development of greener communities.
Support and Growth through IYBA WE4A and TEF
As a Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) alumna, Anna benefited from training and seed capital of USD 5,000, which played a crucial role in scaling her business. She notes, “The support from WE4A has been instrumental in our growth.”

- Revenue growth of over 30% per month
- Expansion of the customer base to 87 clients
- Extension of operations beyond Nairobi to Taita-Taveta County, recycling over 136,000 kilograms of plastic waste
- Workforce growth from 17 to 30 employees, positively impacting over 10,000 livelihoods

Future Plans
Kavalian is preparing to establish its own production facility to reduce outsourcing costs, increase output, and diversify products. Anna envisions a fully operational circular production hub that creates more green jobs and further minimizes plastic waste in the environment.
